Bird Brain

This coronal CT of an emu skull confirms what anyone who has ever met an emu would suspect…thick skull and not much brain.
The emu is a large flightless Australian bird which may reach 2m in height. They can run as fast as 50 km/h. They have coarse primitive feathers which provide protection from the harsh Australian environment. Emus are predominantly herbivorous, but also eat insects. The males incubate the eggs and rear the young for 18 months. Emus are often found in pairs - look out if you only see one emu while driving!
