UIP-IPF Usual Interstitial Pneumonia

UIP is a disease in which the lungs get scarred. Since the lungs need to be spongy and air-filled to work properly, they cannot function well if they turn into scar tissue. Most of the time, the reason for the scarring is unknown. There is no effective treatment at the present time. Frequently, on chest x-ray, IPF or UIP appears as reticular and ground-glass opacities in both lungs in lower lobes with decreased lung volumes.
