Round Pneumonia

Definition – Non segmental consolidation seen up to 8 years old secondary to lung immarturity. Collateral pathways not well developed
Most common etiology is Streptococcal Pneumonia
Etiology of LRI Varies with Age

- Preschool – viral 95%
- School age – viral > mycoplasma(30%)>streptococcal

Pneumatoceles – develop durinfg healing of childhood bacterial pneumonias

Cavitary necrosis – a self – limited complication of bacterial pneumonias that resolves with treatment of cause.
