Discussion of Bladder diverticulum:
Bladder diverticula may be congenital or acquired. Most acquired bladder diverticula are associated with longstanding bladder outlet obstruction and most commonly seen in older men with benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostatitis, or prostate cancer.
Congenital bladder diverticula are uncommon and occur almost exclusively in boys. Congenital diverticula occur most commonly immediately adjacent to the ureteric orifice: so-called Hutch diverticula. These diverticula most often result in vesicoureteric reflux.
