How to get involved with radiology research.

Here's my dilemma. I am extremely interested in radiological research and academics, and would eventually like to teach again s/p my residency. The problem is that I attend a small D.O. school without any opportunities to assist with some research and / or conduct research of my own. Any ideas on how to get a start ???
