Market: Life Sciences Capital Equipment

Search Type: Retained

Client Description:

Akin to computer evolution, PET has evolved over a relatively long period of time. PET has spread from large academic universities to reach even the smallest hospitals and imaging clinics in mature global markets. However, the availability and ease of use of PET has not kept pace with the demand for PET both in the clinic and in the drug development area limiting available radioisotopes to a single commercially available product or requiring large staffs and significant investments in infrastructure to make PET available for research. Our client's vision is to make PET available to more people around the world through simplification of the process of producing PET biomarkers.

Opportunity Statement:

Our client has engineered a small, very efficient biomarker generator to make PET more widely available, simple to access and economically available "on-demand". Our client has created a PET Biomarker Generator which will produce "on-demand" radio labeled compounds. The size and complexity difference from conventional PET biomarker production equipment allows customers much lower barriers to entry to access radioisotopes on demand or integrate PET into their drug development programs. Our client will also sell radiopharmaceutical kits used in the Biomarker Generator to produce a variety of PET Biomarkers. The VP, Research & Development has the opportunity to accelerate our client's growth in its formative stages, to drive next generation technology, to develop their own research and development processes and infrastructure and to assist in developing the culture of discovery and excitement found in small teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Position responsibilities will include, but not limited to;

  • Lead the development of new technologies in the PET Biomarker Generation Field including particle accelerators, chemistry and quality control modules.
  • Growing and lead a research and development team.
  • Develop, implement and lead the company's research strategies and plans aligned with the overall mission and goals of the organization.
  • Develop the research and development processes to govern the gating steps of development.
  • Define technical requirements to meet regulatory and user needs.
  • Lead multiple development projects from idea to commercial production readiness.
  • Develop collaborations and customer relationships to understand the market, incorporate ideas from academia and prepare the company's products for commercial success.
  • Successfully develop project budgets and manage projects within budget constraints.
  • Monitor and understand the research and regulatory landscape to continue to progress the company's products to be on the leading edge and continually advancing the state of the art PET Biomarker Generation technology.

Qualifications:

Education/Certifications

A BS in Physics, Chemistry or Engineering. An advanced degree is desirable.

Professional Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership in developing a successful medical device.
  • A minimum 10 years of total experience and 5 years of experience in leading a highly technical development group.
  • Experience in particle accelerator development.
  • Technical experience in high vacuum systems, RF amplifiers, Magnet design, Target design and/or Radiation chemistry.

Demonstrated experience

  • Developing a product from its early stages through commercial production and utilization.
  • Prior leadership of research and development teams.
  • Visionary with experience in the Molecular Imaging space as well as ties to academic and commercial partners.
  • Manages the Intellectual Property process to advance our client's IP portfolio.
  • Strong team player with experience in small, dynamic companies as well as experience in larger, more mature companies.
