I am a German trained radiologist and board certified ín Germany. I intend to get into a fellowship program in the US. So my questions are:
1. What are my chances to get a fellowship position as a foreign trained radiologist with no strong research background?
2. Do I need to make the USMLE Step I, II and III to aplly for a fellowship program?
3. Which fellowship programs ( Neurorad., Abd. Imaging, Thor. Imaging, VIR etc.) are the most and which are the least competitive (especially for a foreign trained radiologist)?
4. How long does it require to be eligible for licensure?
5. Which states is most IMG friendly with issuing unrestricted medical licensure after one has completed a fellowship program successfully?
6. Are there any possibilities for a foreign trained radiologist to increase the chance to get into a fellowship program ?
Any helpful replies are highly appreciated!! Thanks a lot,
Are you sure about this? ECFMG J-1 visa sponsorship is needed for residents and fellows enrolled in graduate medical education. For that, passing USMLE is a must. I don't know any residency program that don't require USMLE.
The University of Arizona is looking for a neuroradiology fellow to start in July 2010. Your experience would be acceptable.
The links have been listed here, and also on auntminnie.
Be quick, as they are close to finishing candidates.
Good luck.
