As a PACS coordinator, one of my jobs is to make sure the radiologists have access to all the imaging they need in order to make a diagnosis and/or treat patients. When necessary we can take images from other facilities and import them into our system. When we do this, we always put a disclaimer on them stating that the images were imported from ____ and there is a report on file at _____. Recently one of our radiologists told us that he no longer wanted any images imported onto our system. However, we import images for other physicians also such as cardiologists, transplant surgeons, etc. We also have images pushed over from one facility so that our radiologists can compare old PET/CT scans with new scans done at our facility.
Is there anybody out there that has run into any problems importing images from other facilities? Does anybody know if there is any legal issues with importing images, even if there is a disclaimer stating that exam was not done at our facility?
Any feedback on this would be appreciated so we can figure out how to address this issue with our physicians.
