Job Posting: Associate analyst (with MD) for Global Pharm Equity Research Team

Hi. I am building out my Global Pharmaceuticals equity research team here at Sanford Bernstein and am looking to hire an Associate Analyst that would support me. I am based in San Francisco, and currently have one associate here with me and another in our main New York office. The position we are now trying to fill would be based in our New York office and I am looking for suggestions if you have anyone in mind.



The typical hire that I've made in the past most often has direct experience working at a major pharmaceutical company at the corporate level, usually in areas such as marketing, business intelligence, medical affairs, etc. Alternatively, candidates may come from e.g. consulting firms that have consulted to large pharmaceutical companies. Our typical hire has several years' worth of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and often has an MBA, but we are less concerned with a candidate's financial knowledge and more concerned that they have a broad-based, solid understanding of the complexities of the pharmaceutical industry. Many of our previous hires have also held advanced degrees (PhDs, MDs) and otherwise have solid academic credentials.



Associate Analysts have generally weekends and holidays off, and travel only to a small degree . We work long days during the week, but the position is very intellectually stimulating, and successful candidates have significant financial upside over time. Job responsibilities include: performing scientific due diligence through networking with key opinion leaders, attending scientific meetings, and reading the scientific literature; building and maintaining fairly basic financial models using Excel; writing reports summarizing our findings for distribution to institutional money managers/portfolio managers; attending drug company analyst meetings; helping to formulate overall investment opinions. Candidates must also have solid written and verbal skills.
