We’re posting information about the Cardiac Imaging Fellowship Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. The program is either a one-year or two year-program intended for radiology trainees who want subspecialty training in cardiac imaging, especially cardiac CT and/or cardiac MRI.
You can view our website here:

Our trainees rotate through cardiac MRI/CT for at least 8 months, with opportunity to train in nuclear cardiology and echocardiology. Trainees can also do electives in a variety of areas, including Peripheral Vascular CT, Peripheral Vascular Ultrasound, Chest CT, Body MRI, and others.
Our facilities are state of the art. We have three Dual-Source CT scanners, with plans to install a fourth, two 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners which are primarily cardiac, and access to a 3T MRI. (The Radiology Department as a whole 21 CT scanners and 28 MRI scanners). The cardiac radiology section has six staff radiologists, one staff cardiologist, and a Ph.D. physicist.
Currently the cardiac radiology division averages about 8 to 12 clinical cardiac MRI scans (not including aorta and peripheral vascular cases), between four to five CT coronary angiograms per day, as well as a large number of CT scans for coronary calcium and pulmonary vein stenosis. We have a large referral base of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiac amyloidosis, ST elevation myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, and pericarditis.
There is also the potential for use of the Mayo Clinic’s extensive research facilities, including the newly opened Opus Imaging Research Facility, which has dedicated research MRI scanners, including high field strength scanners, Dual Source CT scanners, animal laboratories and other facilities for advanced, multi-modality imaging research.
We’ll be accepting two new fellows for the 2010-2011 academic year. Applications for 2010 will be reviewed in the fall of 2008, with interviews tentatively planned for Nov-December 2008. For further information applicants are encouraged to contact T.J. Sorenson the Cardiac Imaging Fellowship Coordinator at (507) 284-0440. sorenson.tammy@mayo.edu
