does anybody know how to create 3D images using PC software ?? Most I've tried required high specific PCs or are so expensive.
isn't there a way for easy, cheap and efective 3D reconstruction ??
You've probably come across the free Osirix which is pretty good (actually very good) but Mac only so if you are sticking with PCs isn't much good to you. However, the 3D engine in Osirix is from VTK ( http://www.vtk.org ) which is also free and very mature. It may need a little immersion, though, to get the most from it.
Dear Pete,
We are glad we could find a venue for you to help our members with 3D imaging services! And glad that you may help Dr.Ref--treat him well, he is a radRounds member!
Martin, haha, not what we meant of course :) We are simply supportive and glad to see collaboration here! It is our intended mission.
Btw, Osirix is awesome--I use it to create figures for talks and also for showing a referring MD something quick. Only issue sometimes is that one needs a Mac, which is definitely gaining popularity among radiologists. Lots of radiologists are branding some shiny iPhones and Macbook Air laptops lately around me.
thank you for replying over here..treat me well..thanks Steve..and thank you martin..
I don't have a Mac..just PC..and that VTK..oh..how to use it ?? can you lead me to the way ?
Dr. Ref. May I suggest another free for research tool? It is not fancy as other expensive systems, but then it is free, and is being developed by researchers for researchers. It has its own codebase and will become opensource soon. It runs on standard PC hardware too. http://groups.google.com/group/medicalimagingscience/web/smiviewer-... We are adding features to it actively, and your feedback will be important. Hope you find what you wanted, in this, or anotehr system!
I don't think it's system related..I tried to open a study with 500 slices and the software told me that the slices are too much..and I should reduce the number if I want to to do 3D rendering..
The size limitation for 3D until v1.0.0.4 is about 450 slices with 512x512 resolution per slice (the reason is it doesnt rely on any specialized hardware, so tries to optimize system usage).
We removed this limitation with v1.0.0.5, which will be available for download soon. I will let you know when the release is done.
