The course will combine hands-on workstation interpretation of cases with didactic materials and videotaped/narrated implantation procedures. Topics covered in the hands-on part of the course include:

  • Introduction to multidetector CT & ECHO
  • Centerline
  • MIP vs. MinIP
  • Transverse/sagittal – double oblique short axis
  • Imaging protocols
  • Basics of image analysis: aortoiliac system
  • Basics of aortic valve analysis
    • Aortic stenosis evaluation
    • Aortic calcification – eccentricity index
    • Aortic insufficiency evaluation
  • Assessment of the aortic annulus
  • Angle prediction
  • Videotaped cases with commentary
  • Predicting success and failure
    • TAVR complications
  • The Perfect Report: how to communicate findings to the interventionalist and surgeon
  • Long-term follow up of transcatheter aortic valves
  • Future development of catheter-based aortic valve implantation

In total, the trainee will interpret 25 cases in this class. Students will leave with a course book as well as 10 take-home cases that they can interpret on their own and evaluate their proficiency via an online scoring system.
