Description:
This intensive three-day course is directed toward the OB Ultrasound examination and sonographic evaluation of the gravid and non-gravid pelvis. With the utilization of both transabdominal and endovaginal approaches, the transducer can become an extension of the clinical examiation in the OB/Gyn healthcare setting. Advanced Health Education Center's training model for skills classes provides a systematic approach of presenting an overview of the instrumentation and physics related to ultrasound. Classroom presentation and hand-on scanning will be used to develop a foundation of knowledge related to normal maternal and feal anatomy. The course will then progress on to the performance of fetal measurements and the ultrasound appearance of fetal anomalies are included. Also included will be a review of case studies related to common pathologies. A variety of ultrasound equipment is available in the scan lab to allow for development of skills and appropriate scan protocols. Objectives
At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
• Successfully complete the OB/GYN ultrasound examinations following correct patient preparation and procedure protocols.
• Identify and display appropriate normal anatomy and orientation in the ultrasound field of view.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the importance of quality assurance in ultrasound as described in the AIUM guidelines.
• Understand variations in scanning protocols for demonstration of pathologies in trans-abdominal examinations.
• Be able to develop mapping techniques to approach a variety of scanning situations.
• Be able to identify sources and research reference materials for additional information on OB/GYN ultrasound.
