Event Description

At the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify the anatomy/physiology of the upper and lower extremity venous and arterial systems.
  2. Discuss Doppler/color physics & be able to (sonographers) apply these principles to optimize system controls or (physicians) utilize this data for recognizing technical errors, which may result in misdiagnosis.
  3. Perform routine scan protocols & document Doppler waveforms for arterial & venous evaluations of the lower extremity.
  4. Perform routine scan protocol for upper extrem. venous evaluation.
  5. Differentiate normal/abnormal spectral Doppler/color characteristics and waveform characteristics for diagnosing arterial and venous disease.
  6. Explain methods for obtaining quantitative data and the diagnostic relevance of each measurement.
  7. Recognize imaging characteristics of acute versus chronic DVT.
  8. State the indications and applications of indirect testing methods for lower arterial disease.
  9. Describe vein mapping techniques for determining suitability as a potential arterial bypass graft.
  10. Increase knowledge to perform and/or interpret upper & lower peripheral vascular ultrasound exams.
