Course Objectives:

At the completion of the program the participant should be able to:

1. Identify the anatomy/physiology of the neonatal brain and associated structures and describe normal protocol for neonatal head imaging.
2. Explain the pathophysiology of brain hemorrhage in newborns and corresponding ultrasound findings.
3. Identify normal imaging characteristics of the pediatric kidneys and discuss the more commonly seen pathology associated with renal disease in infants and children.
4. Perform routine scan protocol for diagnosing hip dysplasia.
5. Describe scanning protocols and normal / abnormal characteristics for the evaluation of the appendix.
6. Discuss normal / abnormal characteristics of testes and scrotum and the ultrasound evaluation and diagnostic criteria for testicular torsion.
7. Discuss ultrasound evaluation of pediatric gynecological and the most commonly associated anomalies or disease findings.
8. State the indications & applications of ultrasound evaluation for pyloric stenosis, intussusception, and other bowel anomalies.
9. Increase the participant's knowledge to better perform and / or interpret pediatric ultrasound examinations.
10. Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting, under supervised conditions until an accepted level of proficiency has been achieved.
