Introduction to Abdominal Doppler

At the completion of this presentation, the participant should be able to:

1. Explain the indications for performing Doppler evaluation of the major abdominal vessels.
2. Describe the difference between high resistance and low resistance waveform characteristics.
3. State normal flow characteristics and quantitative measurements for the abdominal aorta, renal, celiac and Superior mesenteric arteries.
4. Discuss normal flow characteristics for the IVC, and portal vein.
5. Explain system optimization requirements for the evaluation of venous and arterial disease.

Target Audience

Sonographers and other medical professionals learning how to perform abdominal Doppler examinations. Physicians at an entry level of interpreting examinations. Physician participants may include (but are not limited to) those involved with internal medicine, cardiology, radiology, and general/vascular surgery.

The Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
