At the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

  1. Explain ultrasound physics principles and imaging fundamentals for musculoskeletal imaging.
  2. Describe techniques and protocols for performing shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand (special separate session), knee, ankle & foot  ultrasound examinations.
  3. Identify normal anatomy during musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.
  4. Identify sonographic appearance of commonly seen pathology of the shoulder, knee, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle and foot.
  5. State the indications and benefits of MSK ultrasound for sports medicine injuries, PM&R, and rheumatology applications.
  6. Explain the use of MSK sonography for diagnosis and U/S-guided interventions & describe “in-plane” & “out of plane” injection & aspiration techniques.
  7. Optional: Perform ultrasound-guided injection techniques on human cadaver specimens.
