Event Description

At the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify the anatomy/physiology of the upper and lower extremity venous systems.
  2. Discuss Doppler/color physics and be able to (sonographers) apply these principles to optimize system controls or (physicians) utilize this information for recognizing technical errors which may result in misdiagnosis.
  3. Perform routine scan protocols, & document Doppler waveforms for venous evaluation of the lower extremity.
  4. Perform routine scan protocols for venous evaluation of the upper extremity.
  5. Differentiate normal/abnormal spectral Doppler/color characteristics and waveform characteristics for identifying venous disease.
  6. Recognize image characteristics of acute versus chronic DVT.
  7. Discuss the use of ultrasound guidance and its role in the treatment of venous insufficiency.
  8. Increase the participants’ knowledge to better perform and/or interpret upper and lower peripheral vascular ultrasound examinations.

Course Topics:

  • Doppler fundamentals
  • Venous anatomy/scan techniques and normal characteristics
  • Evaluation of venous pathology
  • Live demo: evaluation for DVT and venous insufficiency
  • Upper extremity venous evaluation
  • Saphenous vein mapping
  • U/S evaluation for pre and post vein ablation therapy
