Event Description

Of all the protocols for ultrasound of the body the carotid artery is the most complex.  More errors in acquisition and interpretation are made with this study than any other in medicine, echocardiography included.  

This course will virtually eliminate them.   In addition to our focus on vessels of the neck we'll take an introductory look at transcranial Doppler by the transtemporal approach.

We began our work in this field with the first machine built specifically for carotid imaging in 1978 and we've taught this course continuously since 1982.  You will quickly learn to master the error-free protocol and document complete findings on any subject you'll ever meet. Every step, measurement, artifact, and pitfall will be carefully explained as you practice over and over in our scan lab.  After hours the scan lab is open for you optional self-guided practice on technique and system controls on yourself or your peers from class. 

You'll learn how to analyze the complex data, reconciling multiple planar views, cardiac output variations, and limited studies due to body habitus.  And you'll be able to immediately relate your findings to the patient's neurological presentation: skills that separate you from many  of your peers.

The majority of questions on the national certification exams deals with cerebrovascular testing (ARDMS, CCI, AANS, ACR).   Every word of this class addresses their content.
