MEETING DESCRIPTION:
Program Description:
This two-day program provides a comprehensive introduction to the science and practice of fetal echocardiography.

The course will provide an understanding of the unique requirements of fetal echo in the diagnosis of structural malformations of the heart and will also include the use of pulsed, continuous wave, and color Doppler as well as M-mode in fetal cardiovascular diagnosis. Findings from the ultrasonographic/Doppler assessment of fetal cardiovascular physiology will be related to the pre- and postnatal management of congenital heart disease. Throughout the program the clinical importance of observations made during the fetal echo exam will be detailed.

Typical presentation topics for this course include:
- Normal 4 Chamber Hearts with Devastating Congenital Heart Disease
- The Normal Fetal Heart As Part of the Fetal Ultrasound Study: What It Should Include
- The 2-Minute Heart Study: How To Sweep Slowly for Position, Size, Function and Rhythm
- Terminology for Congenital Heart Disease/Fetal Cardiology
- Indications for a Targeted Fetal Echocardiography
- The Comprehensive Fetal Echocardiogram
- Normal and Abnormal Atrial and Atrio-Ventricular Connections
- Normal and Abnormal Ventriculo-Arterial Alignments

- Surgical Treatments and Outcomes for Complex Congenital Heart Disease
- Fetal Pathologic Correlates: Hands on Fetal Cardiac Specimens

Educational Objectives:
Through attending this program the participant should be able to:

- list the elements of screening and complete fetal heart exams
- identify the common forms of congenital heart disease
