Administration of data and images throughout the medical enterprise requires a number of diverse skills. Imaging informatics touches every aspect of the imaging chain from image creation and acquisition, to image distribution and management, to image storage and retrieval, to image processing, analysis and understanding, to image visualization and data navigation, to image interpretation, reporting, and communications. Imaging Informatics activities have increased as healthcare providers recognize the urgent need for strategic information management and the inadequacies of traditional medical imaging information storage, retrieval, and analysis tools. You will learn theory as well as analyze the skill sets required to keep pace with the rapid evolution of computer based technologies involved in imaging informatics. Mr. Struthers, BBA BSRT (R) (MR), CNMT, CIIP a member of the NEA committee that developed the Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) curriculum for the American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII) registry exam reveals his insights concerning skills required and strategy choices for imaging informatics professionals. Prior to being asked by the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine to help write the curricula for CIIP certification he developed and taught informatics for Advanced Health Education Center’s PACS Administrator Program. Mr. Struthers founded 4 Imaging Solutions, a medical imaging sales and services company in 2008.
