The concept of Critical Care Ultrasound has evolved with the availability of high quality mobile ultrasound devices, in combination with an increasing number of physicians who understand the importance of point-of-care ultrasound skills to help manage patients in “critical” situations. The course will begin with “need to know” information for image acquisition and interpretation integrated with real time scanning with models and focused case studies. Some of the topics covered include the Extended FAST procedure for trauma evaluation, line placement, and evaluation of unstable hemodynamics, intra-thoracic and intra-abdominal fluid collections, bedside echocardiography, soft tissue evaluation and diagnosis of DVT.
