MEETING DESCRIPTION:
Cardiovascular Fellowship Due to a limited staffing in today’s healthcare facilities, it is often necessary for radiologic technologists to be cross-trained to function in both the imaging department and the interventional radiology suite. This exciting course will provide a wealth of information to the radiologic technologist or special procedures technologist working in these high volume areas. The following course day will deal with sterile technique, procedural supplies, closure devices, imaging equipment and radiation safety for the technologist and patient. The final portion of the course will be related to procedures performed in the interventional radiology department. Course Topics: Week 1-Theory (Total 24 hours) Day 1 • Patient Care • Venipuncture • Contrast Media and Treatment of Reactions • Emergency Care • EKG interpretation Day 2 • Equipment and Instrumentation • Radiation Safety in the Specialty Areas • Vascular Basics • Cardiovascular Disease and Pathology • Procedural Considerations Day 3 • Vascular – Interventional Procedures o Neurologic Imaging o Pulmonary Imaging, o Thoracic Imaging o Genitourinary (GU) Imaging o Gastrointestinal (GI) Imaging o Peripheral Imaging o Vascular Access Devices o Dialysis Graft Imaging CE Credit 24 hours Due to the vast amount of information course attendees must process; it is important to read over course materials and required and recommended text outside of the classroom setting. This allows the attendee to prepare to ask any questions related to the material of the course faculty. Weeks 2 and 3-Clinical Rotations Technologists who register for clinical rotations are required to attend the theory portion of the course prior to clinical rotations. 40 hours of clinical observation (Monday-Friday) each week will give each fellowship technologist the opportunity to experience a wide array of exams, be tutored by CV professionals who provide insights, advice and help you get the most out of your training. Certificate of Completion awarded will reflect clinical hours completed. **No CE credit is awarded for clinical hours. The following information is required for a clinical site rotation assignment. • A copy of Professional Certificate or Licensure • Letter of Good Health • Current Immunizations to include: Tuberculosis (documentation of negative PPD or negative CXR report within the last 12 months, Hepatitis B series (documentation of completed series and/or positive titer, or deferral), Tetanus within the last 10 years, Varicella (chicken pox)-(immunization, positive history by MD letter, positive titer), MMR date or titer date, current influenza vaccination. • Urine drug screen • Copy of Current CPR • Professional attire for clinical days • A signed background release form with a copy of current driver’s license and social security card and date of birth. The release form will be emailed to you when your register for class.
