Event Description

Abdominal Doppler has become an addition in the arsenal of tools available to the physician to aid in the diagnosis of their patients. Vascular ultrasound has progressed over the years to become much more than a screening tool. Accurate diagnostic testing of the vascular system requires a comprehensive understanding of anatomy and hemodynamics as well as the various pathological conditions that can present. Multiple variables such as cardiac output, abnormal liver enzymes, cirrhosis, metastatic and renal disease can all have an impact on the vascular system.

This one-day seminar provides an overview of abdominal vasculature and hemodynamics, and diagnostic criteria suitable for anyone from an experienced sonographer to the beginner. Our scan lab and state of the art equipment, along with our low student instructor ratios allow you plenty of time to perfect your protocol, and acquire the scanning experience necessary to perform diagnostic abdominal vascular exams.

*This course can be taken individually as a two (2) day course OR part of the Vascular Ultrasound seven (7) day course.

Objectives
At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Correctly identify vessel anatomy and orientation in an abdominal vascular ultrasound examination to include renal, portal venous system, and mesenteric vessels.
  • Identify the variations in instrumentation and Doppler principles and the effects in scanning parameters.
  • Describe the flow characteristics and the manifestations of disease processes.
  • Analyze the results of an abdominal vascular exam for pathological conditions and in certain cases, quantify the diseases.
  • Identify additional resource information on abdominal vascular ultrasound.

Course Topics

This one day seminar starts with an overview of abdominal vascular system and the hemodynamics of both color flow Doppler and pulsed Doppler. You will learn to optimize your ultrasound system for even the most difficult patient. After lunch you will be introduced to our scan lab with state of the art equipment platforms and low student instructor ratios where you will learn the specific controls for each of the platforms on the floor, basic scanning techniques, and patient positioning.

Target Audience
Physicians who desire entry level training with vascular ultrasound, and sonographers or other health care professionals learning vascular ultrasound or cross training.
