Statement of Need
There have been important advances in pediatric cardiovascular imaging in the past decade, especially with cardiac MR and CT. Advances in spatial resolution, speed, and analytical tools continue to evolve, resulting in improved diagnosis and clinical management of many forms of cardiovascular disease. Concurrent to an expansion of their utilization is a growing concern regarding the risks associated with these exams, especially in the pediatric population, for whom many protocols need to be adjusted for. Pediatric imaging requires specialized imaging approaches, safety measures, and specific understanding of pediatric anatomy and the spectrum of disease. This course is broken into two parts to meet the evolving educational needs of the pediatric cardiovascular imager. The first course, the 8th SPR Symposium on Pediatric Cardiovascular MR, is a three day small-group course whose aim is to review the necessary basic knowledge of heart disease in children and the practical use of MR for morphologic, functional and hemodynamic evaluation in a small group setting, and with hands-on MR scanning, interpretation, and post-processing sections. The second half of the course, the 6th Advanced Pediatric Cardiovascular Imaging Course, will cover the advanced utilization of imaging technologies to evaluate pediatric cardiovascular disease and management according the current best practice by leaders in the field, and will address clinical advances and future applications in this exciting and rapidly evolving field.
Target Audience
This course is intended for practicing radiologists and cardiologists interested in imaging of patients with congenital heart diseases. The 8th SPR Symposium on Pediatric Cardiovascular MR/Basic Course is specially designed for practicing radiologists and cardiologists who are interested in the hands-on scanning and post-processing involved in pediatric cardiovascular MR imaging. Due to the nature and design of the course, space is limited to 15 applicants. Each applicant is required to submit a supporting letter from the chairperson of their respective departments. If accepted into the course, each attendee is required to also attend the 6th Advanced Pediatric Cardiovascular Imaging Course and the registration fee for the Basic Course includes registration to the Advanced Course. The Advanced Course is a didactic course open to all practicing physicians who are interested in advanced imaging applications in the field of pediatric cardiovascular imaging.
Learning Objectives
6th Advanced Pediatric Cardiovascular Imaging Course, January 21-23:
Employ imaging techniques and protocols for the pediatric patient to maximize patient safety.
Apply current best practice indications and integrated imaging techniques for pediatric cardiovascular disease evaluation and treatment.
Utilize advanced CMR techniques for accurate assessment of myocardial function and ventricular flow.
Incorporate CT imaging for the pediatric patient and post-processing tools to enhance diagnostic detail.
Evaluate the latest technological developments and future applications for state-of-the-art pediatric cardiac imaging.
Credit Designation:
6th Advanced Pediatric Cardiovascular Imaging Course, January 21-23:
