2011-003 Vasc Ottawa - 2011 Vascular Access Update
Overview
This will be a 1 1/2-day weekend CME course (Sat-Sunday). Its purpose is to familiarize the participants with facets of vascular access including A-V grafts, A-V fistula and hemodialysis catheters. It will be a multi-disciplinary approach with the involvement of nephrologists, interventional radiologists, vascular surgeons and nurses. It will encompass approaches from the basic to the most up to date. Dedicated time has been set aside for discussion of difficult cases. Audience participation is anticipated and encouraged.

Objectives
•Understand the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to hemodialysis access management.
•Understand the rationale used to select the most appropriate access for patients with chronic kidney disease.
•Understand the use of radiological imaging to choose the most appropriate site for hemodialysis access creation.
•Understand the potential risks and benefits associated with the various types of hemodialysis access.
•Describe the optimal radiological treatment approaches to the management of a dysfunctional hemodialysis catheter.
•Identify radiological techniques for removal of adherent hemodialysis catheters.
•Apply the optimal radiological diagnostic and treatment approaches to the management of a immature arteriovenous fistula.
•Describe the optimal surgical approaches to the management poorly functioning arteriovenous fistula.
•Describe the optimal radiological diagnostic and treatment approaches to the management of a poorly functioning arteriovenous fistula.
•Understand the appropriate use of stents in the management of dialysis access.
