SUMMARY:Venous Ultrasound
DESCRIPTION:Vascular ultrasound has progressed over the years to becom
e much more than a screening tool. From its early beginnings of grainy
black and white two dimensional images, to the addition of Doppler an
d color flow, it has become the modality of choice for early detection
of peripheral arterial, cerebrovascular, and venous disease. For the
detection of DVT and venous reflux, duplex testing is now the gold sta
ndard other modalities are compared to. Accurate diagnostic testing of
the vascular system requires a comprehensive understanding of anatomy
and hemodynamics as well as the various pathological conditions that
can present. Multiple variables such as cardiac output, dehydration, a
nd infection can all have an impact on the vascular system.\n \nThis
two-day seminar provides an overview of physics and instrumentation, a
natomy and hemodynamics, and diagnostic criteria suitable for anyone f
rom an experienced sonographer to the beginner. For the physician want
ing a more thorough understanding of the capabilities and potential of
the vascular lab, along with interpretative criteria, our extensive l
ibrary of case studies will prove invaluable. Our scan lab and state o
f the art equipment, along with our low student instructor ratios allo
w you plenty of time to perfect your protocol, and acquire the scannin
g experience necessary to perform diagnostic vascular exams.\n *This c
ourse can be taken individually as a two (2) day course OR part of the
Vascular Ultrasound seven (7) day course.\n Objectives At the complet
ion of this course, the learner will be able to:\n\nCorrectly identify
vessel anatomy and orientation in a vascular ultrasound examination\n
Identify the variations in instrumentation and Doppler principles and
the effects in scanning parameters\nDescribe the flow characteristics
and the manifestations of disease processes\nDiscuss QA of the procedu
re and equipment\nAnalyze the results of a vascular exam for pathologi
cal conditions and in certain cases, quantify the diseases\nIdentify a
dditional resource information on vascular ultrasound\n\n \nCourse To
pics\n\nDay one of this two day seminar starts with an overview of the
physical principles of ultrasound including Doppler and color flow, f
ollowed by a comprehensive review of the ultrasound platform controls
enabling you to optimize your system for even the most difficult patie
nt. After lunch you will be introduced to our scan lab with state of t
he art equipment platforms and low student instructor ratios where you
will learn the specific controls for each of the platforms on the flo
or, basic scanning techniques, and patient positioning.\nDay two start
s venous diagnostics including techniques for the detection of DVT and
Venous reflux. After lunch it’s off to the scan lab to continue wor
 k on protocols, technique, and documentation.\n\n \nTarget Audience P
hysicians who desire entry level training with vascular ultrasound, an
d sonographers or other health care professionals learning vascular ul
trasound or cross training. CME Credit\n\n“The Advanced Health Educ
ation Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing
Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physici
ans.”\n\n\n“The Advanced Health Education Center designates this e
ducational activity for a maximum of 16 hours AMA PRA Category I™. P
hysicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their pa
rticipation in the activity.”\n“The Society of Diagnostic Medical
Sonographers allows 16 hours CE Credit.”\n\n\n\n\nFor more informati
