SUMMARY:Venipuncture and Pharmacology for Contrast Media Procedures
DESCRIPTION:Venipuncture is allowed in most states with the documented
  training. This course will provide the techniques for administration,
  the pharmacology of dose units, the importance of documentation and t
 he response to allergic reactions. You will not want to miss this impo
 rtant opportunity to enhance your skills. Course includes both lecture
  and laboratory training with IV training arms.\n\nCourse Topics\n\nâ€
 ˘ Safe and correct venipuncture techniques\nâ€˘ Aseptic techniques and
  infection control\nâ€˘ Patient safety, cooperation and education\nâ€˘
  Administration of prescribed medications and contrast media\nâ€˘ Docu
 mentation, charting procedures and outcomes\nâ€˘ Recognition and a res
 ponse to allergic reactions to contrast media or medications\n\nTechno
 logists who wish to participate in the class for informational purpose
 s will receive 8 Hours of CE Credit and will not advance to the clinic
 al participation.\n\n*To meet California state requirements, you must 
 have 10 hours of training and 10 venipuncture sticks under the supervi
 sion of a qualified instructor. For our course, a qualified instructor
  is a physician or registered nurse in your facility where you are emp
 loyed. The venipunctures will be completed in the facility where you a
 re employed, after permission has been obtained from the employer. Sup
 ervision should be by the radiologist from whom you will be accepting 
 orders to perform the venipuncture.\n\nIt is required that you have cu
 rrent CPR training and that you receive in-service training in first a
 id, emergency response and the facility emergency response system. You
  will spend eight hours in the classroom in the theory and practice of
  venipuncture on IV training arms. The additional required two hours o
 f training must be obtained in your facility and include crash cart pr
 ocedures, emergency utilization of oxygen and the ambu or bag-valve ma
 sk. The clinical performance of the ten venipuncture sticks under supe
 rvision must be completed, documented, and the clinical supervisor mus
 t attest by signature to the satisfactory completion. After all requir
 ed documentation is completed and returned to Advanced Health, a certi
 ficate will be issued documenting compliance to California state requi
 rements. The required venipuncture sticks must be completed in a six-m
 onth period following the classroom portion.\n\n***No discounts apply 
 to this course.\n\nContract classes are available for facilities. Requ
 ired class size for contract courses is a minimum of 15 licensed/regis
 tered radiologic technologists. The maximum class size is 20. No stude
 nts, graduates, unlicensed or limited permits are allowed to register.
