MEETING DESCRIPTION:\nVascular Ultrasound Vascular ultrasound has prog
ressed over the years to become much more than a screening tool. For t
he detection of DVT and venous reflux, duplex testing is now the gold
standard other modalities are compared to. Accurate diagnostic testing
of the vascular system requires a comprehensive understanding of anat
omy and hemodynamics as well as the various pathological conditions th
at can present. Multiple variables such as cardiac output, dehydration
, and infection can all have an impact on the vascular system. This fi
ve day seminar provides a comprehensive overview of physics and instru
mentation, anatomy and hemodynamics, and diagnostic criteria suitable
for anyone from an experienced sonographer to the beginner. For the ph
ysician wanting a more thorough understanding of the capabilities and
potential of the vascular lab, along with interpretative criteria, our
extensive library of case studies will prove invaluable. Our scan lab
and state of the art equipment, along with our low student instructor
ratios allow you plenty of time to perfect your protocol, and acquire
the scanning experience necessary to perform diagnostic vascular exam
 s. Objectives At the completion of this course, the learner will be ab
le to: • Correctly identify vessel anatomy and orientation in a vasc
ular ultrasound examination. • Identify the variations in instrument
ation and Doppler principles and the effects in scanning parameters. â
€¢ Describe the flow characteristics and the manifestations of disease
processes. • Discuss QA of the procedure and equipment. • Analyze
the results of a vascular exam for pathological conditions and in cer
tain cases, quantify the diseases. • Identify additional resource in
formation on vascular ultrasound. Course Topics Day one of this five d
ay seminar starts with an overview of the physical principles of ultra
sound including Doppler and color flow, followed by a comprehensive re
view of the ultrasound platform controls enabling you to optimize your
system for even the most difficult patient. After lunch you will be i
ntroduced to our scan lab with state of the art equipment platforms an
d low student instructor ratios where you will learn the specific cont
rols for each of the platforms on the floor, basic scanning techniques
, and patient positioning. Day two starts carotid duplex testing. This
includes anatomy, hemodynamics, diagnostic criteria, case studies, pe
arls and pitfalls, as well as standardized reporting. After lunch you
will again be in the scan lab working on protocols, technique, and doc
umentation of your studies. Day three starts arterial duplex testing.
Again anatomy, hemodynamics, and diagnostic criteria will be covered a
s well as case studies, pearls and pitfalls, and standardized reportin
 g. After lunch it’s back to the scan lab to continue working on prot
ocols, technique, and documentation of your studies. Day four starts v
enous diagnostics including techniques for the detection of DVT and Ve
 nous reflux.\n\nINSTRUCTORS:\nWhelan\n\nCME HOURS: 40\n\nLECTURE TOPIC
