SUMMARY:Vascular Ultrasound Interpretation
DESCRIPTION:Program Name: Vascular Ultrasound Interpretation, March 20
 11\n\nStart Date: 03/03/2011\nEnd Date: 03/04/2011\n\nAMA Cat. 1 CME C
 redits: 17\nOther CME Credits:\n\nAdvanced Registration: $1,395.00\nRe
gular Registration: $1,435.00\n\nLocation: Gulfcoast Ultrasound Instit
ute, Inc.\nAddress: 4615 Gulf Blvd. Ste 205\nSt. Pete Beach, FL 33706\
n\nThe Advanced Registration fee is honored if payment is made/postmar
ked 21 days or more prior to the beginning date of the program.\n\nCou
rse Objectives:\nAt the completion of this program, the participant sh
ould be able to:\n\n• Discuss Doppler/Color physics, factors affecti
ng optimal Doppler examinations and commonly seen Doppler/Color artifa
cts, which may affect diagnostic accuracy.\n• Explain routine scan p
rotocols and analyze normal spectral waveform signatures, color charac
teristics, and Doppler measurements in a normal carotid and peripheral
vascular examinations.\n• Recognize abnormal spectral Doppler and C
olor Doppler findings seen with carotid and peripheral arterial and ve
nous disease.\n• Discuss the role of indirect testing in the evaluat
ion of lower extremity arterial disease.\n• Apply diagnostic criteri
a for evaluation of carotid, peripheral venous and arterial disease.\n
 • Review complex carotid and peripheral vascular case studies in int
eractive interpretation session format.\n• Describe ultrasound findi
ngs associated with aortic endograft leaks.\n• Describe normal and a
bnormal spectral Doppler characteristics and diagnostic criteria assoc
iated with renal artery evaluation and dialysis access graft evaluatio
n.\n• Increase knowledge and confidence to perform and/or interpret
vascular ultrasound examinations.\n• Apply the information discussed
in a clinical setting, ideally under supervised conditions until an a
cceptable level of proficiency has been achieved.\n\nCourse Topics:\nâ
 €¢ Doppler color overview/diagnostic pitfalls\n• Normal waveforms/sc
an protocol\n• IMT assessment\n• Overview of abnormal waveform - c
haracteristics and diagnostic criteria\n• How to structure a report\
n• Lunch Session: Dialysis Access Graft Evaluation\n• Complex case
 s studies\n• Interpretation sessions, interactive format\n• Indire
ct testing overview and case studies\n• Lunch Session: Renal Artery
Evaluation\n• Lower extremity arterial duplex\n• Arterial interpre
tation sessions, narrative and interactive (combination of indirect an
 d duplex cases)\n• U/S evaluation post intervention\n• Aortic endo
 graft evaluation\n• Venous pathology overview/cases\n• Hands-on se
ssions\n\nWho Can Attend?\n\nPhysicians with a minimum of 6 months exp
erience interpreting carotid and peripheral vascular duplex/color exam
inations. Physician participants may include (but are not limited to)
those involved with internal medicine, cardiology, radiology, and gene
ral/vascular surgery. Sonographers who are proficient at performing va
scular duplex/color examinations may also attend this program. Those w
/o experience and who have attended GUI’s carotid and PV courses may
inquire about attending.\n\nFaculty:\n\nRobert G. Atnip, MD, RVT, RPV
 I\nDennis Bandyk, MD\nMarsha J. Neumyer, BS, RVT\n\nThe Gulfcoast Ultr
asound Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Contin
uing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for phy
sicians.\n\nThe Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute designates this educati
onal activity for a maximum of 17.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)â„¢. P
hysicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of the
ir participation in the activity.\n\nThis course also meets CME/CEU re
quirements for ARDMS. Note: While offering the CME credit hours noted
above, activities are not intended to provide extensive training or ce
rtification for exam performance or interpretation.\n\nFor more inform
