d has progressed over the years to become much more than a screening t
ool. From its early beginnings of grainy black and white two dimension
al images, to the addition of Doppler and color flow, it has become th
e modality of choice for early detection of peripheral arterial, cereb
rovascular, and venous disease. For the detection of DVT and venous re
flux, duplex testing is now the gold standard other modalities are com
pared to. Accurate diagnostic testing of the vascular system requires
a comprehensive understanding of anatomy and hemodynamics as well as t
he various pathological conditions that can present. Multiple variable
s such as cardiac output, dehydration, and infection can all have an i
mpact on the vascular system. This five day seminar provides a compreh
ensive overview of physics and instrumentation, anatomy and hemodynami
cs, and diagnostic criteria suitable for anyone from an experienced so
nographer to the beginner. For the physician wanting a more thorough u
nderstanding of the capabilities and potential of the vascular lab, al
ong with interpretative criteria, our extensive library of case studie
s will prove invaluable. Our scan lab and state of the art equipment,
along with our low student instructor ratios allow you plenty of time
to perfect your protocol, and acquire the scanning experience necessar
y to perform diagnostic vascular exams. Objectives At the completion o
f this course, the learner will be able to: • Correctly identify ves
sel anatomy and orientation in a vascular ultrasound examination. •
Identify the variations in instrumentation and Doppler principles and
the effects in scanning parameters. • Describe the flow characterist
ics and the manifestations of disease processes. • Discuss QA of the
procedure and equipment. • Analyze the results of a vascular exam f
or pathological conditions and in certain cases, quantify the diseases
. • Identify additional resource information on vascular ultrasound.
Course Topics Day one of this five day seminar starts with an overvie
w of the physical principles of ultrasound including Doppler and color
flow, followed by a comprehensive review of the ultrasound platform c
ontrols enabling you to optimize your system for even the most difficu
lt patient. After lunch you will be introduced to our scan lab with st
ate of the art equipment platforms and low student instructor ratios w
here you will learn the specific controls for each of the platforms on
the floor, basic scanning techniques, and patient positioning. Day tw
 o starts carotid duplex testing.\n\nINSTRUCTORS:\n Whelan\n\nCME HOURS
