e is designed for those with minimal or no prior experience with vascu
lar technology.\n\nProgram Description\nThis course will provide a fou
ndation for the use of state-of-the-art techniques in vascular diagnos
is. Emphasis is placed on a thorough understanding of the basic princi
ples underlying the Doppler examination and clinical applications usin
g color and spectral Doppler techniques.\n\nPresentation topics includ
e:\n- Doppler and Color Doppler Physics and Instrumentation\n- Interpr
etation of Spectral and Color Doppler\n- Carotid Doppler\n- Upper and
Lower Extremity Venous Disease\n- Abdominal Doppler\n\nTechniques in d
iagnosis of peripheral arterial and venous disease are also covered. A
pplications in the abdomen and pelvis are discussed.\n\nLectures are c
omplemented by demonstrations, informal question and answer sessions a
nd hands-on scanning.\n\nAt the end of the three-day didactic session,
participants have an opportunity to practice and apply the knowledge
they have acquired by joining an optional, intensive practicum on the
fourth day. Small group scanning sessions will run from 9:00 am to noo
n, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience using a wide v
ariety of modern instrumentation. Scanning in informal tutorial groups
is conducted under the guidance of experienced vascular technologists
.\n\nEducational Objectives:\nAfter attending the entire course, the p
articipant should be able to:\n\n- recognize the relationship between
acoustic principles, hemodynamics, and the sonographic representation
of major vessels and blood flow\n\n- identify the ultrasound findings
of abnormal examination\n\n- describe the capabilities and limitations
of Doppler ultrasound in assessment of vascular disease\n\n- perform
basic scanning of the vascular system\n\n\nINSTRUCTORS:\nNeedleman\n\n
