course is designed for those with minimal or no prior experience with
vascular technology.\n\nProgram Description\nThis course will provide
a foundation for the use of state-of-the-art techniques in vascular d
iagnosis. Emphasis is placed on a thorough understanding of the basic
principles underlying the Doppler examination and clinical application
s using color and spectral Doppler techniques.\n\nPresentation topics
include:\n- Doppler and Color Doppler Physics and Instrumentation\n- I
nterpretation of Spectral and Color Doppler\n- Carotid Doppler\n- Uppe
r and Lower Extremity Venous Disease\n- Abdominal Doppler\n\nTechnique
s in diagnosis of peripheral arterial and venous disease are also cove
red. Applications in the abdomen and pelvis are discussed.\n\nLectures
are complemented by demonstrations, informal question and answer sess
ions and hands-on scanning.\n\nAt the end of the three-day didactic se
ssion, participants have an opportunity to practice and apply the know
ledge they have acquired by joining an optional, intensive practicum o
n the fourth day. Small group scanning sessions will run from 9:00 am
to noon, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience using a
wide variety of modern instrumentation. Scanning in informal tutorial
groups is conducted under the guidance of experienced vascular technol
ogists.\n\nEducational Objectives:\nAfter attending the entire course,
the participant should be able to:\n\n- recognize the relationship be
tween acoustic principles, hemodynamics, and the sonographic represent
ation of major vessels and blood flow\n\n- identify the ultrasound fin
dings of abnormal examination\n\n- describe the capabilities and limit
ations of Doppler ultrasound in assessment of vascular disease\n\n- pe
rform basic scanning of the vascular system\n\n\nINSTRUCTORS:\nNeedlem
