SUMMARY:Vascular Imaging and Doppler Ultrasound
DESCRIPTION:Vascular Imaging and Doppler Ultrasound\nJuly 13-16, 2011\
 n\nProgram Coordinators: Laurence Needleman, MD\n\nWho Should Attend:\
nThis course is designed for those with minimal or no prior experience
with vascular technology.\n\nProgram Description\nThis course will pr
ovide a foundation for the use of state-of-the-art techniques in vascu
lar diagnosis. Emphasis is placed on a thorough understanding of the b
asic principles underlying the Doppler examination and clinical applic
ations using color and spectral Doppler techniques.\n\nPresentation to
pics include:\nDoppler and Color Doppler Physics and Instrumentation\n
Interpretation of Spectral and Color Doppler\nCarotid Doppler\nUpper a
nd Lower Extremity Venous Disease\nAbdominal Doppler\n\nTechniques in
diagnosis of peripheral arterial and venous disease are also covered.
Applications in the abdomen and pelvis are discussed.\n\nLectures are
complemented by demonstrations, informal question and answer sessions
and hands-on scanning.\n\nAt the end of the three-day didactic session
, participants have an opportunity to practice and apply the knowledge
they have acquired by joining an optional, intensive practicum on the
fourth day. Small group scanning sessions will run from 9:00 am to no
on, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience using a wide
variety of modern instrumentation. Scanning in informal tutorial group
s is conducted under the guidance of experienced vascular technologist
s.\n\nEducational Objectives:\nAfter attending the entire course, the
participant should be able to:\n• recognize the relationship between
acoustic principles, hemodynamics, and the sonographic representation
of major vessels and blood flow\n• identify the ultrasound findings
of abnormal examination\n• describe the capabilities and limitation
s of Doppler ultrasound in assessment of vascular disease\n• perform
basic scanning of the vascular system\n\nCME Credits and Tuition:\nTh
is program is approved for 20.5 hours of AMA Category I credit.\n\nTui
 tion: $1150\nOptional Hands-On Practicum: $300\n\nFor more information
