SUMMARY:Vascular Imaging and Doppler Ultrasound
DESCRIPTION:Vascular Imaging and Doppler Ultrasound\nJaunary 19-22, 20
11\n\nProgram Coordinators: Laurence Needleman, MD\n\nWho Should Atten
d:\nThis course is designed for those with minimal or no prior experie
nce with vascular technology.\n\nProgram Description\nThis course will
provide a foundation for the use of state-of-the-art techniques in va
scular diagnosis. Emphasis is placed on a thorough understanding of th
e basic principles underlying the Doppler examination and clinical app
lications using color and spectral Doppler techniques.\n\nPresentation
topics include:\nDoppler and Color Doppler Physics and Instrumentatio
 n\nInterpretation of Spectral and Color Doppler\nCarotid Doppler\nUppe
 r and Lower Extremity Venous Disease\nAbdominal Doppler\n\nTechniques
in diagnosis of peripheral arterial and venous disease are also covere
 d. Applications in the abdomen and pelvis are discussed.\n\nLectures a
re complemented by demonstrations, informal question and answer sessio
ns and hands-on scanning.\n\nAt the end of the three-day didactic sess
ion, participants have an opportunity to practice and apply the knowle
dge they have acquired by joining an optional, intensive practicum on
the fourth day. Small group scanning sessions will run from 9:00 am to
noon, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience using a wi
de variety of modern instrumentation. Scanning in informal tutorial gr
oups is conducted under the guidance of experienced vascular technolog
ists.\n\nEducational Objectives:\n\nAfter attending the entire course,
the participant should be able to:\nrecognize the relationship betwee
n acoustic principles, hemodynamics, and the sonographic representatio
n of major vessels and blood flow\nidentify the ultrasound findings of
abnormal examination\ndescribe the capabilities and limitations of Do
ppler ultrasound in assessment of vascular disease\nperform basic scan
ning of the vascular system\n\nCME Credits and Tuition:\nThis program
is approved for 20.5 hours of AMA Category I credit.\n\nTuition: $1150
\nOptional Hands-On Practicum: $300\n\nFor more information visit http
