SUMMARY:Vascular Care 2011: Best Practices in Peripheral Vascular Trea
 tment
DESCRIPTION:VASCULAR CARE 2011:\nBest Practices in Vascular Therapy\n\
 nFEBRUARY 6—9, 2011\nSUNDAY—WEDNESDAY\n\nNEEDS ASSESSMENT\n\nAs th
e population ages, there is an increasing need to recognize and effect
ively manage vascular diseases. Arterial diseases commonly affect olde
r adults, especially those with cardiovascular risk factors such as di
abetes, hypertension, tobacco use and hyperlipidemia. Venous thrombosi
s and chronic venous insufficiency are even more common problems, with
disabling and potentially life-threatening\ncomplications. This fifth
annual installment of the UC Davis\nVascular Center’s Vascular Care
series addresses the challenges of managing arterial and venous disea
ses, with an examination of the evidence upon which practice guideline
s have been based.\n\nAs diagnostic and therapeutic technologies have
developed\nrapidly in the past several years, vascular care specialist
s now\nhave a broader array of choices and options. This educational\n
program broadly addresses many of the aspects of vascular disease mana
gement, emphasizing the value of a multi-disciplinary approach and app
lications of novel technologies. In addition to reviewing the clinical
care and diagnostic evaluation of these patients, the program examine
s contemporary surgical and endovascular options for revascularization
, reviews practice standards, and addresses the challenges of clinical
decisionmaking for problems with limited evidence to guide choices. T
he program includes opportunities for audience participation in sessio
ns and case-based discussions.\n\nThe program focuses on the education
needs of cardiologists,\nsurgeons, and radiologists who treat periphe
ral vascular\ndiseases. The program is also intended for other health-
care\nproviders, including nurses and advanced practice nurses,\npodia
trists, endocrinologists, primary care providers, wound\ncare speciali
sts, as well as radiology, cardiovascular and\nvascular laboratory tec
hnologists. As in prior years, Vascular\nCare 2011 also has a special
session on the emerging specialty of vascular nursing.\n\nEDUCATIONAL
OBJECTIVES\n\n• Identify clinical topics that have limited strength
of evidence\nfor CPG recommendations so informed decisions can be made
in tailoring therapy to specific patient conditions.\n• Discuss dia
gnostic and treatment options for peripheral arterial, carotid, renal,
mesenteric and venous diseases, as well as for aortic aneurysms, in o
rder to provide cost effective care with optimal patient functional ou
tcomes.\n• Compare current and future medical, surgical and endovasc
ular treatment options for vascular disease to ensure access to the op
tion most appropriate for the patient.\n• Identify complications fol
lowing endovascular and surgical\nrevascularization and develop manage
ment strategies for\nthese complications to reduce mortality, risk of
 limb loss and\nother complications.\n\nENROLLMENT\n\nPlease register e
arly – space is limited.\nTuition is $470 for physicians and a disco
unted rate of $350\nis offered for nurses, vascular laboratory technol
ogists and other health care professionals. Confirmation of registrati
on will be sent within two weeks after receipt of enrollment form. The
fees will increase after January 5, 2011.\n\nYou must register for th
e conference to get the code for our room block at the hotel.\n\nCompl
imentary registration is available for fellows and residents in ACGME
accredited programs. Program directors may submit the completed enroll
ment form with a cover letter requesting tuition waiver. Letters must
be received by January 5, 2011.\n\nFor more information visit https://
