DESCRIPTION:Program Name: New Course in San Diego, CA! Ultrasound for
Critical Care and Advanced Emergency Applications\nStart Date: 02/09/2
011\nEnd Date: 02/11/2011\nAMA Cat. 1 CME Credits: 24.0\nOther CME Cre
 dits: --\nAdvanced Registration: $1,799.00\nRegular Registration: $1,8

 ral sessions plus specialty break-out groups.\n\nCourse Description:\n
\nThe objective of this program is to educate emergency and critical c
are physicians on how to utilize ultrasound as a diagnostic tool to vi
sualize common pathology as well as how to perform various ultrasound-
guided procedures. Break-out group sessions will concentrate on specia
lty-specific topics. The strong hands-on component of this course and
its low participant-to-instructor ratio offer ample time scanning on a
variety of live models.\n\nCourse Objectives:\nAt the completion of t
his program, the participant should be able to:\n\n1. Discuss the basi
c fundamentals of ultrasound physics/instrumentation and recognize ima
ge artifacts.\n2. Demonstrate the operation of the ultrasound system c
ontrols and transducer selection.\n3. Perform routine scan protocols f
or evaluation of the abdomen, lower extremity DVT, and adult heart.\n4
. Recognize normal/abnormal image characteristics of the abdomen, thor
ax, lower extremity venous system, and adult heart.\n5. Recognize norm
al cardiac structures and identify ultrasound findings associated with
cardiomyopathy, pericardial effusion, cardiogenic shock, dissection,
and other hypotensive conditions.\n6. Describe image orientation, tran
sducer preparation, and scan protocols for performing use of ultrasoun
d guidance in the placement of peripheral and central venous lines and
arterial catheters.\n7. Demonstrate ultrasound applications in the ev
aluation of the critically ill unstable patient.\n8. Explain the use o
f ultrasound guidance for performing thoracentesis, pericardiocentesis
and endotracheal tube placement.\n9. Describe image orientation, tran
sducer placement, and scan protocols for performing ultrasound for lun
g imaging and evaluation of Pneumothorax.\n10. Explain techniques for
evaluating soft tissue/limited MSK, and testicular examinations (EM tr
ack only).\n11. Recognize ultrasound characteristics associated with G
YN pathology (EM track only)\n12. Apply the information discussed in a
clinical setting (ideally under supervised conditions) until an accep
table level of proficiency and appropriate hospital credentialing has
been achieved.\n\nCourse Topics:\n\n• Imaging Fundamentals Overview:

e, intensivists, pulmonologists, trauma, and emergency medicine physic
ians who will be involved with performing and interpreting ultrasound
exams. Also, internal medicine and family practice physicians may atte
