of the ASNR Symposium will focus on the biology, diagnosis, classifica
tion, imaging, and management of acute ischemic stroke. There will be
lectures on the pathophysiology of acute ischemic stroke, stroke class
ification strategies, transient ischemic attacks and stroke mimics. Th
e symposium will cover basic and advanced MR imaging techniques includ
ing diffusion weighted imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, dynamic cont
rast enhanced and arterial spin labelling perfusion imaging, MR spectr
oscopy, susceptibility weighted imaging and blood oxygen level depende
nt imaging. Advanced CT imaging techniques including CT angiography an
d CT perfusion as well as dose reduction strategies will be presented.
Nuclear medicine and molecular imaging techniques will also be discus
sed. Additional lectures will address imaging the carotid artery with
ultrasound, CTA, MRA and DSA with a focus on vulnerable plaque imaging
. There will also be lectures on the clinical assessment of acute stro
ke patients and use of clinical and neuroimaging variables used in str
oke treatment selection and prediction of outcome. Treatment including
intra-arterial recanalization strategies, intravenous thrombolytic th
erapy, and supportive therapy and an update on clinical trials will be
presented. A final session will be dedicated to pediatric stroke.\nTh
