DESCRIPTION:This four-hour course will provide vital radiation safety 
 information to both the technologist and nontechnologist performing ex
 aminations in healthcare facilities today.  Topics covered will inclu
 de basic radiation safety, the role of the radiation safety program an
 d the effects of ionizing radiation. Also covered will be radiation de
 tection  and personal protection methods related to ionizing radiatio
 n.  This course is an excellent option for the registered technologis
 t to refresh their knowledge of radiation safety in a minimal amount o
 f time.  This course can be used to provide required radiation safety
  training for the nontechnologist performing Bone Densitometry measure
 ments in the state of Texas. Also, the new Texas rules require Noncert
 ified Technicians (NCTs) to complete 6-hours of continuing education e
 very two years. This course will meet four of the six required hours o
 f continuing education as required by the Texas Department of State He
