SUMMARY:Prostate Imaging & Doppler
DESCRIPTION:Prostate Imaging & Doppler\nApril 4, 2011\n\nProgram Coord
 inator:\nEthan J. Halpern, MD, MS\n\nWho Should Attend:\nThis course i
s designed for urologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists and son
 ographers.\n\nProgram Description:\nThis one-day program is a combined
effort of the faculties of Urology, Radiology and Radiation Therapy.
It provides an overview of established and recently developed approach
es to ultrasound of the prostate with a special emphasis on endorectal
scanning.\n\nThe course incorporates a variety of clinical perspectiv
es to complement the basic information on physics, anatomy and patholo
gy of the prostate gland. Our curriculum also covers issues of therapy
and recent advances in technology that are changing the landscape of
prostate diagnosis and treatment.\n\nThe course content is frequently
updated as new standards and procedures develop in this fast-paced fie
ld. In recent courses, there has been a special lecture devoted to adv
anced techniques for detection of prostate cancer including contrast-e
nhanced imaging and elastography.\n\nIn addition to the didactic compo
nent, this program offers an optional practical hands-on experience, w
ith live models, phantoms and a variety of instruments. Each participa
nt, in the optional hands-on practicum, will have the opportunity to p
erform endorectal scanning of the prostate.\n\nEducational Objectives:
\nThrough attending this course, the participant should be able to:\n\
n• appreciate the relationship between acoustic physics and the sono
graphic representation of tissue\n• discuss transrectal and transper
ineal approaches to biopsy of the prostate\n• discuss the roles of h
armonic imaging and transient response imaging of the prostate\n• re
cognize normal prostate anatomy and identify pathologies of the prosta
te and seminal vesicles from ultrasound images\n• identify the poten
tial roles of Doppler imaging and contrast materials in the detection
of prostate cancer\n• understand the capabilities and limitations of
ultrasound evaluation of the prostate\n\nCME Credits and Tuition:\nTh
is program is approved for 9.5 hours of AMA Category I credit.\n\nTuit
 ion: $650\nOptional Hands-On Practicum: $300\n\nFor more information v
