 n\nCleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute\nNoninvasive Vascular
  Laboratory\nCleveland, Ohio\n\nDescription\n\nThis intensive 4½ day 
 program will train the participant to interpret carotid duplex ultraso
 und examinations through a series of activities, including: didactic l
 ectures, preceptored interpretation sessions with staff physicians of 
 the Cleveland Clinic Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory, hands-on scannin
 g sessions, and review of an extensive library of programmed learning 
 cases with angiographic correlations. By the end of the week, the part
 icipant will have interpreted approximately 125 carotid duplex ultraso
 und examinations. Enrollment will be limited to 5 participants per ses
 sion to allow for ample opportunity for interaction and direct mentors
 hip from course faculty.\n\nAt the end of the course, participants wil
 l receive documentation of their experience, including the number of e
 xaminations interpreted during the week. This documentation may be use
 d toward application for vascular laboratory accreditation and/or phys
 ician certification in vascular testing (e.g. RPVI examination).\n\nPa
 rticipants are encouraged to prepare for their intensive week in the C
 leveland Clinic Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory with a series of focus
 ed reading assignments which will be sent to participants prior to arr
 ival in Cleveland.\n\nTarget Audience\n\nCardiologists, Vascular surge
 ons, Vascular medicine physicians, Radiologists, Neurologists.\n\nLear
 ning Objectives\n\nUpon completion of this activity, the participant w
 ill be able to:\n\n• Review cerebrovascular anatomy.\n• Identify r
 equired elements of the carotid duplex ultrasound examination.\n• Ma
 ster interpretation of carotid duplex ultrasound studies for both comm
 on and uncommon disorders • through extensive mentored interpretatio
 n.\n• Recognize when additional neuroimaging is indicated to further
  characterize and diagnose disease.\n• Recognize commonly used diagn
 ostic criteria for internal carotid artery stenosis.\n• Review indic
 ations for revascularization of carotid artery stenosis and therapeuti
 c options for revascularization (endarterectomy versus carotid stentin
 g).\n• Identify key elements of a high quality vascular laboratory p
 rogram, including written study protocols, validated diagnostic criter
 ia, quality assurance, laboratory accreditation, and physician and tec
 hnologist certification.\n\nFaculty Disclosure\n\nThe Cleveland Clinic
