 ive Vascular Laboratory\nCleveland, Ohio\n\nDescription\n\nThis intens
 ive 4½ day program will train the participant to interpret carotid du
 plex ultrasound examinations through a series of activities, including
 : didactic lectures, preceptored interpretation sessions with staff ph
 ysicians of the Cleveland Clinic Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory, hand
 s-on scanning sessions, and review of an extensive library of programm
 ed learning cases with angiographic correlations. By the end of the we
 ek, the participant will have interpreted approximately 125 carotid du
 plex ultrasound examinations. Enrollment will be limited to 5 particip
 ants per session to allow for ample opportunity for interaction and di
 rect mentorship from course faculty.\n\nAt the end of the course, part
 icipants will receive documentation of their experience, including the
  number of examinations interpreted during the week. This documentatio
 n may be used toward application for vascular laboratory accreditation
  and/or physician certification in vascular testing (e.g. RPVI examina
 tion).\n\nParticipants are encouraged to prepare for their intensive w
 eek in the Cleveland Clinic Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory with a ser
 ies of focused reading assignments which will be sent to participants 
 prior to arrival in Cleveland.\n\nTarget Audience\nCardiologists, Vasc
 ular surgeons, Vascular medicine physicians, Radiologists, Neurologist
 s.\n\nLearning Objectives\n• Upon completion of this activity, the p
 articipant will be able to:\n• Review cerebrovascular anatomy.\n• 
 Identify required elements of the carotid duplex ultrasound examinatio
 n.\n• Master interpretation of carotid duplex ultrasound studies for
  both common and uncommon disorders • through extensive mentored int
 erpretation.\n• Recognize when additional neuroimaging is indicated 
 to further characterize and diagnose disease.\n• Recognize commonly 
 used diagnostic criteria for internal carotid artery stenosis.\n• Re
 view indications for revascularization of carotid artery stenosis and 
 therapeutic options for revascularization (endarterectomy versus carot
 id stenting).\n• Identify key elements of a high quality vascular la
 boratory program, including written study protocols, validated diagnos
 tic criteria, quality assurance, laboratory accreditation, and physici
 an and technologist certification.\n\nFaculty Disclosure\n\nThe Clevel
 and Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education has implemented 
 a policy to comply with the current Accreditation Council for Continui
 ng Medical Education Standards for Commercial Support requiring resolu
 tion of all faculty conflicts of interest. Faculty declaring a relevan
 t commercial interest will be identified in the activity syllabus.\n\n
