SUMMARY:Peripheral Vascular Ultrasound
DESCRIPTION:Target Audience: All registered sonographers, student sono
graphers, and radiologic technologists who desire entry level training
with vascular ultrasound.\n \nOverall goal of activity: To enhance t
he knowledge and skills in the areas of vascular technology, sonograph
ic principles and instrumention, and other topics related to sonograph
y\n \nDescription: - This course focuses on the technical aspects of
ultrasound assessment of upper and lower extremity peripheral vascular
systems. Participants will be introduced to physiologic testing using
continuous-wave Doppler. Topics will include an introduction to Doppl
er physics in relation to normal venous and arterial blood flow in the
extremities, anatomy of lower and upper extremity peripheral vascular
systems, mechanisms of disease, scan protocols and techniques. \n \
nUpon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:\n\nD
escribe general Doppler physics principles associated with peripheral
venous and arterial hemodynamics\nIdentify the difference between norm
al and abnormal venous and arterial imaging spectral analysis\nDescrib
e the anatomy encountered during a venous and arterial duplex imaging
examination\nExplain the signs and symptoms associated with venous dis
ease\nExplain the signs and symptoms associated with peripheral arteri
al disease\nIdentify the ultrasound appearance of normal arterial and
venous anatomy and blood flow.\nDemonstrate optimal scanning technique
s and proficiency in “knobology” through application of Doppler pr
inciples\nDescribed the characteristics of the venous Doppler signals
obtained during venous duplex imaging\nDescribed the characteristics o
f the venous Doppler signals obtained during arterial duplex imaging\n
Define and become familiar with different arterial and venous disease
states.\nDescribe physiologic testing of lower extremities\n\nApproved
for up to 24 SDMS CMEs\nSDMS CMEs accepted as ARRT Category A credits
