rformance of women’s ultrasound procedures. An integrated approach o
f lecture, demonstrations, hands-on scanning experience with models ac
complishes the educational objectives. The basics of instrumentation a
nd physics are reinforced in the laboratory. Advanced Health Education
Center’s training model for skills classes provides a systematic ap
proach of presenting an overview of the instrumentation and physics re
lated to ultrasound. There will be both classroom presentation and han
ds-on scanning to provide for recognition of anatomy related to the fe
male pelvis and various stages of gestation. Attention will also be gi
ven to OB/Gyn measurements utilizing both the transabdominal and endov
aginal scan approach.A variety of ultrasound equipment is available in
the scan lab to allow for development of skills and appropriate scan
protocols. A complete two-week program can be accomplished by precedin
g this course with the Abdominal Ultrasound course.\nObjectives At the
completion of this course, the learner will be able to: • Utilize t
he principles of instrumentation to set up ultrasound equipment for sc
anning. • Recognize and identify fetal anatomy and the gynecologic o
rientation of the female pelvis. • Perform a basic endovaginal ultra
sound exam. • Perform a satisfactory fetal ultrasound exam. • Iden
tify the fetal and uterine anomalies and their ultrasound appearance.
 • Apply appropriate measurement techniques in transabdominal and end
ovaginal scanning.\nCourse Topics • Instrumentation • Anatomy Revi
ew • Scan Protocols • Orientation and Perspective • Endovaginal
Approach • Non-pregnant Female Pelvis • First Trimester • Second
and Third Trimester • Fetal Growth and Development • Biophysical
Profiles • Gestational Measurement • Complications in Pregnancy\nT
