oward the OB Ultrasound examination and sonographic evaluation of the
gravid and non-gravid pelvis. With the utilization of both transabdomi
nal and endovaginal approaches, the transducer can become an extension
of the clinical examiation in the OB/Gyn healthcare setting. Advanced
Health Education Center's training model for skills classes provides
a systematic approach of presenting an overview of the instrumentation
and physics related to ultrasound. Classroom presentation and hand-on
scanning will be used to develop a foundation of knowledge related to
normal maternal and feal anatomy. The course will then progress on to
the performance of fetal measurements and the ultrasound appearance o
f fetal anomalies are included. Also included will be a review of case
studies related to common pathologies. A variety of ultrasound equipm
ent is available in the scan lab to allow for development of skills an
d appropriate scan protocols. Objectives At the completion of this cou
rse, the learner will be able to: • Successfully complete the OB/GYN
ultrasound examinations following correct patient preparation and pro
cedure protocols. • Identify and display appropriate normal anatomy
and orientation in the ultrasound field of view. • Demonstrate a wor
king knowledge of the importance of quality assurance in ultrasound as
described in the AIUM guidelines. • Understand variations in scanni
ng protocols for demonstration of pathologies in trans-abdominal exami
nations. • Be able to develop mapping techniques to approach a varie
ty of scanning situations. • Be able to identify sources and researc
h reference materials for additional information on OB/GYN ultrasound.
\nFee includes lecture, learning materials, and scanning laboratory wi
th non-gravid models and with obstetrical patients. Students are respo
nsible for their textbooks, housing, and transportation.\nSelf Assessm
