SUMMARY:Introduction to Peripheral Vascular Duplex/Color Flow Imaging
DESCRIPTION:Program Name: Introduction to Peripheral Vascular Duplex/C
olor Flow Imaging -- January 2011\nStart Date: 01/27/2011\nEnd Date: 0
 1/28/2011\nAMA Cat. 1 CME Credits: 16.0\nOther CME Credits: 15 ASRT\nA
 dvanced Registration: $1,295.00\nRegular Registration: $1,335.00\nLoca
tion: Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute, Inc.\nAddress: 4615 Gulf Blvd. S
te 205\nSt. Pete Beach, FL 33706\n\nThe Advanced Registration fee is h
onored if payment is made/postmarked 21 days or more prior to the begi
nning date of the program.\n\nCourse Objectives:\n\nAt the completion
of this program, the participant should be able to:\n\n1. Identify the
anatomy/physiology of the upper and lower extremity venous and arteri
al systems.\n2. Discuss Doppler/color physics & be able to (sonographe
rs) apply these principles to optimize system controls or (physicians)
utilize this data for recognizing technical errors, which may result
in misdiagnosis.\n3. Perform routine scan protocols & document Doppler
waveforms for arterial & venous evaluations of the lower extremity.\n
 4. Perform routine scan protocol for upper extrem. venous evaluation.\
 n5. Identify normal/abnormal spectral Doppler/color characteristics an
d waveform characteristics for diagnosing arterial and venous disease.
\n6. Explain methods for obtaining quantitative data and the diagnosti
c relevance of each measurement.\n7. Recognize imaging characteristics
of acute versus chronic DVT.\n8. State the indications and applicatio
ns of indirect testing methods for lower arterial disease.\n9. Increas
e knowledge and confidence to perform and/or interpret upper and lower
PV ultrasound exams.\n10. Apply the information discussed in a clinic
al setting, under supervised conditions until an accepted level of pro
ficiency has been achieved.\n\nCourse Topics:\n\n• Doppler fundament
als\n• Venous anatomy/scan techniques, normal characteristics and pa
thology\n• Upper extremity venous evaluation\n• Saphenous vein map
ping\n• Live demo: Venous insufficiency and upper extremities\n• L
ower extremity evaluation for DVT\n• Lower extremity arterial anatom
 y/physiology\n• Clinical exam/indirect testing\n• Direct testing/d
uplex scanning\n• Live demos: duplex arterial, segmental pressures\n
 • Treatment of lower PAD\n• Hands-on sessions\n\nWho Can Attend?\n
\nSonographers, physicians, PAs & other medical professionals learning
to perform peripheral vascular duplex/color exams. Also, physicians w
ho are at an entry level of interpretation. Physician may include (but
are not limited to) those involved with internal medicine, cardiology
 , radiology, and general/vascular surgery.\n\nFaculty:\n\nPhil Bendick
 , PhD., RVT\nDirector, Vascular Laboratory\nWilliam Beaumont Hospital\
nRoyal Oak, MI\nConsultant; accepting honorariums from Gulfcoast Ultra
sound Institute, Inc.\nNo relevant financial relationships to disclose
\n\nRob Daigle, BA, RVT, FSVU\nUltrasound Consultant, Denver, CO\nCons
ultant for Cardinal Health and Biosound Esaote\nConsultant accepting h
onorarium from Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute, Inc.\n\nThe Gulfcoast U
ltrasound Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Con
tinuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for
physicians.\n\nThe Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute designates this educ
ational activity for a maximum of 16.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™
. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of
their participation in the activity.\n\nApproved by the ASRT for 15.0
Category A continuing education credit. Note: ASRT credits are accepte
d by the ARRT as Category A credits.\n\nThis course also meets CME/CEU
requirements for ARDMS. Note: While offering the CME credit hours not
ed above, activities are not intended to provide extensive training or
certification for exam performance or interpretation.\n\nFor more inf
