SUMMARY:Introduction to Carotid Duplex/Color Flow Imaging
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Carotid Duplex/Color Flow Imaging -- Octob
 er 2011\n\nStart Date: 10/24/2011\nEnd Date: 10/26/2011\nAdvanced Regi
 stration: $1,595.00\nRegular Registration: $1,635.00\nLocation: Gulfco
ast Ultrasound Institute\nAddress: 4615 Gulf Blvd., Suite 205\nSt. Pet
e Beach, FL 33706\n\n*The Advanced Registration fee is honored if paym
ent is made/postmarked 21 days or more prior to the beginning date of

equal to 7 days from course date.\n\nObjectives & Topics\n\nAt the co
mpletion of this program, the participant should be able to:\n1. Ident
ify the anatomy/physiology of the cerebrovascular system.\n2. Discuss
Doppler/color physics & be able to (sonographers) apply these principl
es to optimize system controls or (physicians) utilize this informatio
n for identifying technical errors which may result in misdiagnosis.\n
 3. Perform routine scan protocols and Doppler calculations in a comple
 te carotid duplex/color examination.\n4. Identify normal/abnormal spec
tral Doppler/color characteristics; explain methods for obtaining quan
titative information and state the diagnostic relevance of each measur
ement.\n5. Describe & characterize plaque & other pathologies associat
ed with cerebrovascular disease.\n6. Discuss IMT measurements & evalua
tion & their clinical significance as a screening method for cardiovas
cular disease.\n7. Increase knowledge & confidence to perform and/or i
nterpret carotid ultrasound examinations.\n8. Apply the information di
scussed in a clinical setting, under supervised conditions until an ac
cepted level of proficiency has been achieved.\n\nCourse Topics:\n•
 Doppler/Color fundamentals\n• Anatomy/physiology and disease progres
sion\n• Normal spectral analysis\n• Carotid scan protocol\n• Dis
ease progression & clinical history\n• Carotid stenosis assessment\n
 • IMT: Measurement and Evaluation\n• Interactive interpretation ca
 se studies\n• Non-atherosclerotic abnormalities\n• Carotid pitfall
 s — a case-based approach\n• How to structure a report (case examp
les)\n• Hands-on sessions\n\nFaculty\nLori Green, BA, RT, RDMS, RDCS

ience\nSonographers, physicians, PAs & other medical professionals lea
rning how to perform carotid duplex/color examinations (proof of allie
d health experience required). Physicians at an entry level of interpr
eting examinations. Physician participants may include (but are not li
mited to) those involved with internal medicine, cardiology, radiology
 , & general/vascular surgery.\n\nCME Credit Statements\n\nThe Gulfcoas
t Ultrasound Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education f
or physicians.\n\nThe Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute designates this e
ducational activity for a maximum of 24.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credi
t(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the ext
ent of their participation in the activity.\n\nApproved by the ASRT fo
r 23 Category A continuing education credit. Note: ASRT credits are ac
cepted by the ARRT as Category A credits.\n\nThis course also meets CM
E/CEU requirements for ARDMS. Note: While offering the CME credit hour
s noted above, activities are not intended to provide extensive traini
ng or certification for exam performance or interpretation.\n\nFor mor
