ctives & Topics\nAt the completion of this program, the participant sh
ould be able to:\n\n1. Identify the anatomy/physiology of the cerebrov
ascular system.\n2. Discuss Doppler/color physics & be able to (sonogr
aphers) apply these principles to optimize system controls or (physici
ans) utilize this informationnfor identifying technical errors which m
ay result in misdiagnosis.\n3. Perform routine scan protocols and Dopp
 ler calculations in a complete carotid duplex/color examination.\n4. I
dentify normal/abnormal spectral Doppler/color characteristics; explai
n methods for obtaining quantitative information and state the diagnos
tic relevance of each measurement.\n5. Describe & characterize plaque
& other pathologies associated with cerebrovascular disease.\n6. Discu
ss IMT measurements & evaluation & their clinical significance as a sc
reening method for cardiovascular disease.\n7. Increase knowledge & co
nfidence to perform and/or interpret carotid ultrasound examinations.\
n8. Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting, under super
vised conditions until an accepted level of proficiency has been achie
 ved.\n\nCourse Topics:\n\n• Doppler/Color fundamentals\n• Anatomy/
physiology and disease progression\n• Normal spectral analysis\n•
Carotid scan protocol\n• Disease progression & clinical history\n•
Carotid stenosis assessment\n• IMT: Measurement and Evaluation\n•
Interactive interpretation case studies\n• Non-atherosclerotic abno
 rmalities\n• Carotid pitfalls — a case-based approach\n• How to
 structure a report (case examples)\n• Hands-on sessions\n\nTarget Au
dience\n\nSonographers, physicians, PAs & other medical professionals
learning to perform peripheral vascular duplex/color exams. Also, phys
icians who\nare at an entry level of interpretation. Physician may inc
lude (but are not limited to) those involved with internal medicine, c
ardiology, radiology, and general/vascular surgery.\n\nCME Credit Stat
ements\n\nThe Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute is accredited by the Accr
editation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continui
ng medical education for physicians.\n\nThe Gulfcoast Ultrasound Insti
tute designates this educational activity for a maximum of 24.0 AMA PR
A Category 1 CME Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit com
mensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.\n\nA
pproved by the American College of Emergency Physicians for a maximum
of hour(s) of ACEP Category I credit.\n\nApproved by the ASRT for 23 C
ategory A continuing education credit. Note: ASRT credits are accepted
by the ARRT as Category A credits.\n\nThis course also meets CME/CEU
requirements for ARDMS. Note: While offering the CME credit hours note
d above, activities are not intended to provide extensive training or
