on to efficiently and effectively complete a general abdominal ultraso
und procedure. The course begins with basic ultrasound techniques invo
lved in completing an abdominal ultrasound series and general handling
of the ultrasound device. The course comprises an introduction to nor
mal ultrasound anatomy of the abdominal organs, followed by lecture pr
esentations of the common pathologic changes encountered in a diagnost
ic procedure.Lecture is followed each day by a faculty supervised hand
s on ultrasound scan lab. The Interactive scan lab with live models an
d small groups allow each participant ample opportunity to gain the kn
owledge and skill needed to independently perform a basic abdominal ul
trasound procedure.\nObjectives At the completion of this course, the
learner will be able to:• Demonstrate a basic understanding of ultra
sound physics• Utilize the principles of instrumentation to set up u
ltrasound equipment for scanning• Recognize and identify the organ s
ystems of the abdomen on the ultrasound image• Differentia between n
ormal and abnormal variants on an ultrasound image• Perform a basic
ultrasound procedure on the abdomen\nCourse Topics • Basic Principle
s of Ultrasound Physics• Ultrasound Instrumentation• Normal abdomi
nal anatomy and vasculature• Ultrasound Image Review of Normal vs. A
bnormal Cases• Scan Techniques and Protocols for Image Acquisition
Prevertebral Vessels• Liver and Biliary System• Pancreas and Spl
een• Kidney and Retro peritoneum\nTarget Audience Physicians, sonogr
