curate and cost effective imaging tool available to expedite patient d
iagnosis and ultimately patient care. The focus of this three day cour
se is to provide participants with the “need to know” information
to efficiently and effectively complete a general abdominal ultrasound
procedure. The course begins with basic ultrasound techniques involve
d in completing an abdominal ultrasound series and general handling of
the ultrasound device. The course comprises an introduction to normal
ultrasound anatomy of the abdominal organs, followed by lecture prese
ntations of the common pathologic changes encountered in a diagnostic
procedure.Lecture is followed each day by a faculty supervised hands o
n ultrasound scan lab. The Interactive scan lab with live models and s
mall groups allow each participant ample opportunity to gain the knowl
edge and skill needed to independently perform a basic abdominal ultra
sound procedure.\nObjectives At the completion of this course, the lea
rner will be able to:• Demonstrate a basic understanding of ultrasou
nd physics• Utilize the principles of instrumentation to set up ultr
asound equipment for scanning• Recognize and identify the organ syst
ems of the abdomen on the ultrasound image• Differentia between norm
al and abnormal variants on an ultrasound image• Perform a basic ult
rasound procedure on the abdomen\nCourse Topics • Basic Principles o
 f Ultrasound Physics• Ultrasound Instrumentation• Normal abdominal
anatomy and vasculature• Ultrasound Image Review of Normal vs. Abno
rmal Cases• Scan Techniques and Protocols for Image Acquisition• P
revertebral Vessels• Liver and Biliary System• Pancreas and Spleen
 • Kidney and Retro peritoneum\nTarget Audience Physicians, sonograph
ers, and other medical professionals who are the entry level of ultras
